Indian Railways – Way of Life

First railway service in India started on 16 Apr. 1853 when the first train was flagged off from Bombay to Thane, to cover a distance of 34 km
with 14 coaches and 400 Passengers.

India put first step towards new age when it took manufacturing of steam locomotives in India.The first steam loco No. F-734 was built in 1895 by the Ajmer workshop of the Rajputana Malwa Railway.

WDAP-5: India’s first dual mode loco, one unit was built by CLW in 2019, it can operate on both 25 kV AC electri fication and unelectrified lines by using its on-board diesel engine .
